Washington, D.C. - The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau published a final rule in the Federal Register on May 10, 2004, establishing the Columbia Gorge viticultural area. The Columbia Gorge viticultural area is located in Hood River and Wasco Counties, Oregon, and Skamania and Klickitat Counties, Washington, approximately 60 miles east of Portland, Oregon. The establishment of viticultural areas allows wineries to describe more accurately where their wines come from and enables consumers to better identify the wines they purchase.

This final rule is effective in 60-days, July 10, 2004.
