Yes Bill, that is correct - to really let the bottle breathe, you should open it, and optionally decant it. But in the case of a romantic evening, pouring the wine from a decanter, rather than the original bottle, just wouldn't seem right. Consider that.

You mentioned that you should open this wine and let it breathe.
I always thought that by doing that, you let the top square inch 'breathe'.
I always decant a good wine so the entire bottle 'breathes'.
